What a Spaz

I don’t know what’s sadder. The fact that I have a category called “Stupid Stuff I Did” or the fact that I have blog entries under that header.Well I have a new entry…I was picking up a chicken that was defrosting in the sink so that I could put it in the fridge overnight…no point in risking salmonella. On the way by, I hit a glass cutting board that then ricocheted off of the stove and landed point down on my foot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Clancy run so fast! Good thing I had thick hand knitted socks …

Making Yarn – Sort of

I had my first wheel spinning class last night at Lettuce Knit. Laura from CosmicPluto was the teacher, and as always, was wonderfully patient with me as I fumbled my way through the evening. I learned a few things. I am pretty much spastic for about an hour while learning new things. After that it gets a bit better All wheels are not equal. I started the class on an Ashford Kiwi and finished on a Louet S10. Like going from a Chevette to a Porsche. Next week I’ll try the Lendrum. I am in …

They Call me Sensei

I bought a new spindle at Romni last weekend, along with some Blue Faced Leister. No, it’s not a new band, it’s a type of sheep! I also caved and bought a Bosworth spindle. I justified it with the fact that a spindle is so much cheaper than a wheel. That’s only a temproary solution because tomorrow I’m taking the wheel class at Lettuce Knit and you know I’m gonna want a wheel after that.I’m learning so much about different wools and sheep and how they are “composed”. For example, Merino is a very short draw fibre, where BFL is …

Keep on booga’ing

I enjoyed Booga #1 so much that I thought it would make a great present for someone on my list. (Not to mention it’s super fast). So off I went to Mary Maxim at Yonge & Eglinton and bought more Noro Kuryeon while it’s on sale (which ends today). I bought about the brightest colourway I could find for this particular person because it’s a running joke now that she gets something pink each year. You see, I’m allergic to pink, so only for this person would I make something in pink!I also bought a neat-o gizmo for doing the icord. …

Lest We Forget

I am going to depart from my regular yarn related content today to remind you to pause at 11am today. Both DH and I come from military families. My great uncles served in WW1 and my cousins all did active duty with the Canadian Armed Forces. Some are still serving and I pray for them every day. DH’s dad was a chef in the navy during WW2. To both of us, November 11th is an important day to give thanks. It is also one of the reasons that I am …
