Updated with new pics!
Here’s the new pics of the finished purse. Yes, it’s in black and I wouldn’t normally do one in black because it doesn’t photograph well…but I think you can see what it looks like

I’ve decided to design a series of purse patterns and see if I can self publish them. Must pay for stash you know!
This is the first one. I did it in black because I needed it for my brother’s wedding. I’ll do it again in a lighter colour that will actually photograph! It has a strap, but I cut it off of the picture so you could see it a bit better.

The finished size is 10 inches x 6 inches and I made it out of Lustersheen. My question is, would you prefer a purse out of Lustersheen or out of a thicker (ie worsted) yarn? Thinking to myself, I guess it depends on what the purpose is. For a dressy occasion, the Lustersheen works well, and for everyday use the worsted works better….Thoughts?

  1. I like to use cotton in purses a lot for the non-stretch factor. The size of the cotton would depend on the purse, with the smaller ones using a smaller size thread/yarn. That is a lovely purse and just the right size for a dressy occasion. It will hold what you need for that and look dressy.

  3. I LOVE IT!!!! Very pretty in Lustersheen. Would look nice in Patons Brilliant too I think. Lots of colours to choose from there, especially for a dressy bag look. As for casual, hmmm, I don’t know. Will have to dwell on that one. Oh, and I KNOW I can count on you to come up with patterns that don’t have eyelash or fake fur trims! Talk about sick of those!!!

  5. Thanks Maggie – I think I’m allergic to eyelash yarn 😉 Simple, clean, classic. Those are the three things I keep in mind when I design. I leave the trendy things to others.
