I’ve never been to a Crochet Guild of America conference before, but since it was a hop skip and a jump away, I couldn’t resist.

So along with my friends Maggie, Gisele and Pirkko, we hit the road early Friday morning. A few shopping side trips later we arrived in Buffalo.

I didn’t take any classes, so most of my time was spent in the market. If you hear that the US economy is suddenly rebounding, you will know why.

Here’s the loot:

A Touch of Twist Alpaca – DK(ish). Possibly the softest alpaca I have ever felt. Most of our weekend (and money) was spent in this wonderful booth. I have some laceweight alpaca being dyed and sent to me so will follow up with pics when that arrives.

Louet KidLin – 6 skeins (one being mailed to me) to makeCia

The money shot.

Buried in here in the white gauze bags is the softest cashmere that I’m just itching to spin – I did a wee bit last night on my spindle but was too tired to do it justice. I’ll take a picture of it when I start spinning.

I had so much fun meeting people I’d corresponded with, and reconnecting with my dear friend Drew Emborsky. While I was getting my picture taken with him, my friends also were taking my picture and it was a bit of a paparazzi moment – people at the end of the line were whispering “who is she”. Made me smile

Kim Guzman was as gracious and sweet as I thought she’d be. We’ve been emailing each other for almost 10 years now and it was just wonderful to finally meet her.

The Nefertiti shawl made it’s debut to much ooing and ahhing and we were pleased

We also made the Mybuffalo.com website which was pretty neat

All in all I had a great weekend, met great people, got a ton of hugs from the Dude, and re-energized my interest in crochet. Now if only my hands will cooperate. If you want to see the rest of the photos, they’re on my Flickr stream

In other news, I finally finished the February Lady Sweater – pics to come once I get buttons.

PS – Clancy is very happy I’m home – she hasn’t left my side and just purrs when I look at her.

  1. Glad you guys had such a great time… Your shawls are just beautiful, wish I could knit but I do crochet very nicely… Maybe I will find some elegant looking crochet shawls, need to ask Giselle about hers, love filet crochet… Anyway, glad you had a good time and helped the US economy… LynnA
