At least my spinning mojo is still good

Since my knitting mojo has been so bad lately I decided to take part in a Spindlers Challenge on Ravelry. The theme was “indulge yourself”. I was good with that let me tell you!

I had some of Abby’s lovely batts in the stash that I had been saving until I was a more accomplished spinner. Well, it was time to crack the seal on them and test my mettle.

I’m so pleased with the result I can’t even tell you. I hadn’t really touched a spindle in months. What I realized is that I can spin much thinner and much more consistently on one than on the wheel. I think that it’s because it’s a much more slower process and you get a chance to examine every inch of your work.

Here’s the final product. I’m not sure of the length yet (have to dig out the yarn meter and I don’t have time this morning)…will edit this post with the info when I get a chance. I don’t ever get a whole lot of yardage on a spindle because I’m too excited to wind it off and ply it to see what it looks like….lol Not to mention the physical limitations of how much you can put on one before the spindle starts to protest.

So here was my official entry:

Details: Batt from Abby’s Yarns. I bought it a long time ago but I think it’s a silk merino blend
Spindle Used: Bosworth Midi 28g/1oz
WPI = 18

I had so much fun with this and I still have a whole batt and 1/2 left over. I had to finish off early because other projects with deadlines were starting to make *ahem* noises. But I’ll load ‘er up again and when I have 5 minutes here and there (which of course as we all know leads to hours…just don’t tell the other projects) then I’ll finish off.

As they say “you spin more on the wheel by the hour but more on the spindle by the week”

  1. Oh Sherri, I am glad you got it finished. It was beautiful to see the other day at the Guild and the hand of the yarn is so soft and silky. You have come a long way in a short time with your spinning. Congtratulations !
    Hugs…..S>
