Knit From Your Stash 2007
Well this is a huge challenge for me….can I do it?
Wendy is having a challenge that I find intriguing….you can only knit from your stash for 2007 (with a few small exceptions). I had been thinking about this before I saw her post. When looking for the Christmas decorations this year, I had to move 7 Rubbermaid tubs of yarn and thread. The scary thing is that I don’t even remember buying some of them!
I also wrote down my accomplishments from the year, as well as those projects I’d started and not finished. Wow what a reality smack that one was. Somehow I managed to have on the needles or hooks 3 afghans, 2 thread tree skirts, 2 pairs of socks, 4 sweaters and somewhere I’m sure there’s a partridge in a pear tree. Let’s not even mention the recent explosion of drop spindle spinning and roving that’s taken over a corner of my room.
So, as of January 1st, I’m going to give this an honest go. Now I’ll admit I’m going to have moments of weakness, but when I found that I had yarn set aside for 6 sweaters (@ 10 balls each) that I’d completely forgotten about, I decided I might have a small issue that needs addressing. In a weak moment of panic, I thought….hey – run out to the yarn store today and stock up! Well, that kinda defeats the purpose doesn’t it.
The exception I may have to make is for Christmas presents for next year. It’s an official exemption according to the rules. We’ll see how I go once I get into the swing of it. I know a few things I wanted to knit I don’t have yarn for. But I’ll think about them next year.
Can I do it? Time will tell. But this time I’m going to give it a real effort! I have no choice – the Rubbermaid tubs are closing in on me and it’s getting harder to navigate around them. In case you’d blocked out forgotten, here’s my ever growing and horribly unorganized stash. Something has to be done. I’m afraid they’ll find Jimmy Hoffa in one of the tubs!

You’ve been tagged. Read my blog for details.
I’m almost afraid to say this outloud..but..I didn’t think your stash looked all that out of control…hmmmmm, that says a lot about my own circumstances, don’t you think? Where does that leave me? I wasn’t worried before but now I am! And it’s all your fault Sherri.
Carol.
It’s pictures like this that make me feel better about my own stash. I have never, to my knowledge, bought enough yarn for a sweater without a plan to start said sweater immediately. (Okay, I do have enough yarn for a sweater I started and hated, that I will have to rip and reuse.)
Could you knit 6 sweaters in a year? (Okay, did I mention what I have achieved in stash control), I lack in productivity?)
Is this a knit only challenge? Does crochet count too!
I wish you all the luck! Lucky you, they allow sock yarn, roving for spinning, yarn gifts, and the odd gift to make someone! Hee Hee!
Hugs,
Maggie
I’ve been trying to destash for quite some time, but people keep giving me yarn! I’m currently making Guideposts 10th Anniversary Sweaters to try to use it up (it’s mostly acrylic).
I also want to finish my projects in 2007. I have several projects that I need to get “unstuck” or start over. It’s just easier on the mind to start something else UNTIL you can’t find the needle size you need because it’s taken up by another project.
Perhaps if I get rid of some of my canvas tote bags I’ll be less tempted to start another project. If there’s an empty bag, it’s easy to give into the tempatation of starting something else.
