It’s all about timing
As you know, I’m an active member of Heartmade Blessings. I was forced onto the sidelines when my hands became increasingly painful. Not being able to help out really hurt – I know how important that this charity is to people going through rough times.
When I saw a request for a ghan come through the list for a lady who had had 3 heart attacks, I decided it was time to jump back in. For you see, my mom passed away from a heart attack 4 years ago, and that’s how I became involved – they sent me a comfortghan and I was hooked.
Today would have been my mom’s 73rd birthday. I think finishing this ghan today eased the pain just a bit for me. I hope it helps the recipient too.

That’s a beautiful way to honor your mother’s memory.
How beautiful that is!
Very nice. I am making one for a friend’s mom that was impacted by Katherina. Pain in the hands was my original reason for starting to knit. It is very hard not to crochet as often as I would like. There is a speed with crochet that I just don’t get with knitting.
Sherri, you did a lovely job on this ghan. I’m glad it helped to console you.
What a beautiful ghan! It would surely make your mother proud. Those squares are amazing. I haven’t been crocheting long, but I think they are some of the most unique I have seen.
I knew it was your moms birthday around now… sorry I missed it – but wht a wonderful way to remember her!
You are an inspiration Sherri!
Thanks Shannon. Sometimes I don’t feel so inspiring. Getting through the period between Mom’s birthday and Mother’s Day is difficult. I do it by putting one foot in front of the other and trying to ignore all the talk about Mother’s Day. Until you loose your mom, you don’t realize how painful that time can be.
So anything I can do to make it a little more meaningful is what I do.
