And now for something completely different
For someone who doesn’t really like Bling, I’ve been on a real jewellery kick lately.
My new friend Karin taught me how to make wire jewellery yesterday. I’d seen her fabulous pieces at a show and begged her to teach me. Well, it turns out that it’s not as complicated as it looked. It’s all done with a corker/spool knitter/knitting noddy – whatever you call it, and 28 gauge wire. While you can order expensive wire, this stuff came from Active Surplus in Toronto.
I did many a Barbie rug with this baby when I was little. When I get better at tension, I’ll give real silver a try. For now, it’s brass and regular wire for me. But so far I’m happy. I had to start over because my tension was too tight on the first try and I broke a wire. Don’t want those puppies sticking you when you’re wearing the necklace.
I’m not sure how I’ll close it off, but will figure something out. I have to put it away for a month because I’m about to start the Knitting World Cup and will be consumed with knitting a sweater for the next month. I don’t honestly think it will take a month, but given that I really only have a couple of hours a night, it just might.

Your selfmade jewellry looks so gorgeous, you certainly inspired me to try my hands at it as well – thanks for that!
I’ve tried that except I dropped pearl-like beads in the middle…it was really pretty. I have a tough time with clasps tho.
Have you see this gadget? http://www.bond-america.com/products/wyrknittr.html I’ve been wanting to get one for awhile and make wire jewelry.
Sooooo kewl Sherri!
Well done, Sherri. But really I don’t need something else to get addicted to!
