I was absolutely speechless (hard to imagine I know!) this morning when I went to Ravelry and saw this:

I can’t begin to tell you how happy this makes me. So far I haven’t offered patterns for sale, but had them free on my site. For some reason I didn’t consider myself a designer, just someone who noodled around. Well, Ravelry has accepted me as  designer, so I guess it’s official! Now all of those ideas that were rattling around in my gray matter might actually see the light of day. And who knows, maybe I could even sell some of them!

It’s been so hot lately I haven’t wanted to knit or crochet much. The idea of a lump of wool on my lap when I’m schvitzing (sweating in Yiddish – I live in a Jewish neighbourhood and the vernacular has rubbed off on me), just wasn’t appealing. Instead I’ve spent most of this long weekend spinning. I hadn’t touched the wheel in a while, so it took a bit to get back.

This is some Corriedale roving that I dyed. I found that the roving had become clumpy and hard so I carded it into rolags. It made a huge difference – so much so that I had the proverbial light bulb moment. I started spinning the rolags much thinner than I would normally have been able to spin roving. My tension was also more even – fewer thick/thin spots.

This is a test ply that I made up last night – 22 wpi. I’m pretty happy with that. This is the first time I’ve ever been able to spin laceweight that is able to be plyed without breaking every 2 feet.

Of course, any time I try to take pictures of something, I have a helper nearby. Today I was trying to take a picture of the sample, and the only spot that didn’t have something on top of it (at the time) is The Boy’s mom’s old trunk. Clancy claimed this as her own a long time ago, and she’s not too keen on sharing. First curious, then adamant that it’s her spot and she’s not budging.

Hmmm – is this a treat?

I’m not sure what it is, but I’m definitely not thinking it’s for me….

I’m laying on top so you can’t take pictures. Give me a treat and I’ll consider moving…

Oh all right if you’re going to take pictures I might as well show my good side.

I’ve had enough of this nonsense Treat Wench – off with you!

I’m going to take her advice and go play – I think I’ll do some more carding today – take everything outside and enjoy what’s left of the long weekend. Hope yours was as good as mine was

  1. Yay!!! Sherri, you’ve always been a designer. It’s about time you were validated as such. It’s so humid, my little clay sculpture wouldn’t hold its shape. You’ve inspired me to try again tonight, after it cools off.

  2. Congrats and you deserve it baby !! You ARE a designer and I look forward to more items from you. Hugs…..S>

  3. Good on you! Kudos. Canadian Content is a good thing. I hope this will mean more designs????

    As for Clancy…what a cat!?!?

And I Love the colour of the lace weight!

  4. Wow! That’s so COOL! Congratulations! And, I absolutely love all the photos of kitty. Especially with the play-by-play commentaries. 🙂 Your sample spinning looks awesome too! I’m so mystified by this whole spinning thing. But, I know it must be difficult to spin something like lace weight. Sheesh! You go, girl! 🙂
